My first homemade knit garment

Back on Saturday 8th October my sister and I took a trip to the beautiful Alexandra Palace to pay a visit to the Knitting and Stitching Show 2010. What a long day that was. There was stall upon stall of lovely things and too much inspiration to know what to do with it.

What especially got us going were a number of Alpaca stalls, including Purl Alpaca Designs and the Toft Alpaca Shop. But at the prices of their yarn in what was a financially tough month for me, and the fact that I couldn’t buy a pattern on its own, I settled for the trustworthy Rowan and opted for the Rowan Purelife Autumn brochure to choose which item to make for my first ever homemade knitted garment. First up was Senna, a long belted cardigan. I was planning on buying cheaper, alternative yarn, rather than Rowan Purelife, but in the end couldn’t work out what I wanted so plucked for the Purelife in diesel.

It took a while and a few mistakes, along with a very frustrating time working out the collar, but I’ve got there and I’m chuffed to bits with it. As soon as I finished the belt tonight I had to try it on and take a photo, so apologies for the long week at work look going on in the photo, but try and get past that…
