My sister and I went to Brixton market the weekend before last to buy some Ghanaian fabric for dress making. I unfortunately didn’t get to buy as much as I’d like when Jeffrey and I were in Ghana last summer, but luckily Brixton is the bees knees for beautiful African print fabric in London. I’m planning on making my forth and fifth homemade dresses out of this fabric and can’t wait to get started.
I first made my own dress a year ago now. For Christmas 2008 Jeffrey bought me two lengths of beautiful Liberty lawn cotton fabric with which to make dresses. In February 2009 I set to making a wrap dress as my first ever piece of homemade clothing. You can’t see it very well here but this is the best photo I can find I’m afraid. This photo was taken on Brighton beach in July 2009.
Then in summer for our trip to Ghana I made a full length dress out of the other fabric Jeff bought me, and a shorter dress out of some other Liberty fabric I bought especially. These aren’t great photos either but are the only ones I have.
The photo of my full-length dress was taken in Obuasi miners’ village while the photo of the turqoise dress was taken whilst visiting Jeffrey’s Grandma in Obuasi.
